Tellabs Foundation Supports AIM MTC Immersion Workshop

June 30, 2010. The American Institute of Mathematics (AIM) was recently awarded a grant of $13,900 from the Tellabs Foundation. The grant will help support an immersion workshop for middle school math teachers from Silicon Valley. The teachers will join the AIM Math Teachers’ Circle, which connects these teachers with local mathematicians to work on mathematical problem solving. Read more...

MTC Session Inspires Mathematical Research

June, 2010. Dr. Gene Abrams, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and leader of the Pikes Peak Math Teachers’ Circle, has recently published an article with co-author Dr. Jessica K. Sklar, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Pacific Lutheran University, that was inspired by a Math Teachers’ Circle session on Mad Veterinarian scenarios. Their article, which appears in the June 2010 edition of Mathematics Magazine, is entitled “The Graph Menagerie: Abstract Algebra and the Mad Veterinarian.”
